Inspire Cup 2026 – Final

Narmada Valley FC successfully defended the Inspire Cup with a flawless campaign—six wins from six matches and just one goal conceded throughout the tournament. The journey to the final was commanding, as the girls cruised through the group and knockout stages, consistently controlling games with their football, chance creation, and defensive solidity.

Six matches on the trot took a toll, and by the time the final arrived, fatigue was evident. Yet, when it mattered most, the team delivered what they came for—to defend the title. We played the best football in the tournament, created the most chances, and remained the strongest defensive unit. Individual brilliance complemented team excellence, with Reshu deservedly winning Best Goalkeeper and Ambika being rightfully adjudged Player of the Tournament.

The final was a match to remember. Against the run of play, the opponents scored with their very first chance. A mistimed challenge allowed their winger through, and a tame shot slipped in following a goalkeeping error. It was a shock, especially as we had dominated the first half and created several clear chances. Tejaswini and Lalita both came close but couldn’t convert. At halftime, we trailed1–0 despite being the better side.

There were stern words at the break, and the response in the second half was outstanding. We returned with greater intensity and purpose, creating chance after chance. The opposition sat deep, defending in numbers, while our defence remained largely untroubled. In the 54th minute, captain Akansha decided to take matters into her own hands. Driving forward from defensive midfield, she broke lines and delivered a perfectly weighted cross for Shanti, who calmly equalised.

We continued to probe relentlessly. Lalita blazed over from Shanti’s cutback, Tejaswini combined brilliantly with Lalita only to see her powerful low shot pushed away by the goalkeeper, and Somni had two clear chances that went straight at the keeper. Despite our dominance, the game went into extra time.

Extra time followed a similar pattern—total control, wave after wave of attacks, and a defence that was rarely tested. We had created enough chances to have won the match comfortably. And then came the moment that sealed the title.

In the final minute, from a throw-in, Somni laid the ball back to the thrower, our full-back, who found Durga. Durga broke the first line with a sharp pass into Somni, who controlled brilliantly and slipped a perfectly timed through ball to Ambika. Ghosting between the centre-backs at the top of the box, Ambika took one touch with her left and unleashed a thunderous strike into the top-right corner. Pandemonium erupted in our dugout. With barely a minute left, we had our winner.

The final whistle blew soon after. The Inspire Cup was ours once again—rightfully so. The best team won on the day, and our girls thoroughly deserved it, especially in front of the national team coach. Among 15 teams, Narmada Valley FC stood tallest.

Mission accomplished. Now, it’s back to work—with eyes firmly set on lifting it again next year.
