Sports for Excellence

Narmada Valley Football Academy & Club, a sports pathway created by Mrida that transforms the lives of tribal children through football in Mandla, Madhya Pradesh. 

The Narmada Valley Football Academy started in 2017 to provide free education, hostel facilities, food, sports training and equipment to underprivileged tribal children from Mandla, Dindori and Anuppur region. The academy is fully residential and has provided quality sports training to 250+ kids over the years. Currently, there are 122 children in the academy, consisting of 6 teams according to age categories, including 3 teams of boys and 3 teams of girls.

  • The academy has 5 qualified football coaches, including a “B” license coach, two “D” license coaches and two “E” license coaches. 
  • Three players from this academy have been selected and are currently playing for India’s top football clubs in youth categories.
  • The academy has successfully organized three Golden Baby Leagues in the last three years, in which 450+ kids (U-10 and U-12 category) from 30+ tribal and remote villages participated every year.
  • The U-17 girls’ team of this academy has participated in the National Level of Subroto Cup 2022, representing Madhya Pradesh. Two players from this team were among the 25 best players of Subroto Cup 2022 in the National Level.

Player Development Stages

Key Fundamental stage for children from 6 to 8 years old with a development time of 2 years. With a focus on developing technical, social, physical, tactical, and psychological traits in players for attack and defend game tactics. Training sessions of over 120-150 hours per year delivered by AIFF licensed grassroots coaches.

Learning to train stage for children from 9 to 11 years old with a development time of 2 years. With a focus on developing technical, social, physical, tactical, and psychological traits in players for specialist positions of the game. Training sessions of over 200-350 hours per year delivered by AIFF licensed grassroots coaches.

Training to train stage for children from 12 to 14 years old with a development time of 2 years. With a focus on developing technical, social, physical, tactical, and psychological traits in players to perform as Groups and Units of the game. Training sessions of over 500-600 hours per year delivered by AIFF D licensed grassroots coaches.

Competitive level training stage for players 15 years and above. With a focus on developing technical, social, physical, tactical, and psychological traits in players to perform as a team in  75-90 mins game sessions. 

HOW TRAINING WORKS AT NVFA:​

Training for football is never just about learning tactics or drills. It is also about strengthening the body and improving speed and stamina. Our training sessions combine a mix of strength and conditioning  with technical and tactical sessions that ensure our young players can give their best on the field.
