“Our Goals for This Year’s Fundraiser”

Mandla, Dindori, Balaghat, Anuppur, and Shahdol districts in Madhya Pradesh form a region predominantly inhabited by the Gond and Baiga tribes. Despite having over 2,000 schools, first-generation learners here face numerous barriers. Limited resources, malnutrition (including high sickle cell anemia rates), and parental migration for seasonal work impact children’s stability and learning. Substance use and under-resourced environments further disrupt academic progress, creating a challenging landscape for these students to thrive.

Dedicated Space for Learning and Living

Currently, Mrida’s rented building doubles as a school by day and a hostel by night, creating limitations in hygiene and space management.

Enhanced Health and Safety

Shared spaces make infection control challenging, especially for younger children who need guidance in basic hygiene. A new facility would allow for quarantine areas and better sanitation.

Proper Sports Facilities

Our current football field, a converted agricultural plot, is too small and unfit during monsoons and dusty winters. A dedicated sports ground would provide consistent training conditions.

Scalable Campus in Imligohan Village

With land secured and all approvals in place, Mrida plans to build a residential campus 8 km from Mandla. This facility will initially include a dormitory for 75 girls, warden and staff quarters, a school building, and a dedicated football ground.

Empowerment through Independence

Students will gain the skills and confidence needed to break free from the cycle of daily wage work, allowing them to pursue fulfilling careers.

Brijkumari's Journey from
Survival to Success

Brijkumari's Journey from Survival to Success

Mandla, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Life was always a struggle for Brijkumari, a teenager from the remote village of Khisi in Mohgaon, Mandla. After losing her father at a young age and with her mother working at construction sites, Brijkumari had little stability and faced an uncertain future. When her mother remarried and left her under her elderly grandparents’ care, Brijkumari dropped out of school to work. But in 2019, a new path opened: Mrida Education and Welfare Society offered her a place in their hostel and school.

Since then, Brijkumari has transformed. She stayed on even through the challenging years of COVID-19, when Mrida kept its hostel open against the odds to prevent children from dropping out. At first, Brijkumari was shy, rarely speaking up. Today, she stands confidently before an audience, playing the lead role in this year’s Ram Leela, delivering Sanskrit verses with poise.

Her journey to health and strength has been equally inspiring. Once severely anemic and fainting frequently, she began her sports journey as a goalkeeper. Two years later, she moved to a forward position, a sign of her newfound confidence and physical strength. In 2021-22, she won the title of Player of the Tournament in the Subroto Cup qualifiers in Madhya Pradesh, marking a turning point in her life.

Now preparing for her Class 10 exams in March 2025, Brijkumari is driven by dreams of college, professional football, and coaching. Thanks to supporters like you, she has not only regained her health but also found a future filled with hope, strength, and opportunity.
